Indirect realism is a way of understanding perceptual knowledge that claims that the information presented to us in perceptual experience is not the world itself but an impression of the world from which we must draw inferences about how the world really is. John Locke ascribes certain qualities that support indirect realism, particularly primary and secondary qualities.
